Yesterday it was announced that Governor Palin will speak at the Patriots & Warriors Gala. A Fundraiser to help provide resources and programs to benefit military families, veterans, and at-risk youth.
It didn’t take too long and once again the loons on the left, who supposedly are convinced that Governor Palin is irrelevant and has no chance in winning any elected office, released an onslaught of personal attacks in order to silence her.
The Denver Post reports:
Citing an “onslaught of personal attacks”, a Colorado nonprofit today canceled a scheduled May appearance in Glendale by former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, according to a press release.
Palin was to be the keynote speaker at the Patriots & Warriors Gala at the Infinity Park Events Center in Glendale.
The event sponsored by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation was announced Friday but was canceled today due to “safety concerns resulting from an onslaught of negative feedback received by the organization,” the press release said.
I thought I’ve seen and heard it all from those nuts, but going after the military? What a shame. The Military and their families risk everything including their lives so they can have the freedoms we all enjoy.
They’ll stop at nothing. They’ll go after people who exercise their rights of freedom of speech, and now they go after the military, and these are the same people who called for civility in America, following the tragic Tucson shooting.. Disgusting!
Statement by the SKP Foundation
Denver, CO – The Sharon K Pacheco Foundation (SKP Foundation) announced today the cancellation of the 2011 Patriots & Warriors Charity Gala, featuring former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, citing safety concerns resulting from an onslaught of negative feedback received by the organization after yesterdays announcement.
Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Governor Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns, says the Foundations Director.
He points out that no direct threats have been made against anyone, but the recent increase in negative rhetoric against the former Alaska governor raises concern for her safety and the safety of others despite the call for civility in America, following the tragic Tucson shooting.
The organization deeply respects Sarah Palin, and appreciates her willingness to come and honor our military.
The organization plans to host the event at some point in the future, featuring another speaker.
UPDATE: John Hayward at Human Events writes
No specific details of threats or harassment were provided, but the press release stated that “some have even gone so far as to attempt to berate our namesake, volunteers, and others in a very brutal and personal way, which has raised personal safety concerns for these individuals and their families,” and “some in the media have attempted to further the negative rhetoric by printing stories that appear to be ‘digging for dirt,’ and are purely biased reports attempting to damage our organization and/or individuals, such as Sarah Palin, without true understanding or knowledge – simply false assumptions.”

I do volunteer work for a small local charity myself, and I know how difficult it would be to deal with threats and protests at a big annual event. They’re just not set up to deal with waves of hate spam, harassing phone messages, and petty vandalism. Unpaid volunteers may give generously of their time for a worthy cause, but many of them will balk at becoming targets of persecution, and small organizations can’t afford to lose a lot of volunteers. It’s not hard to imagine the kind of pressure that would lead the SKP Foundation to cancel the event, instead of jeopardizing their core mission to become free-speech martyrs.
