Kate Middleton today said ‘I do’ at the altar as officials closed down Westminster Abbey to the public so she could have a practice run for her big day.

However, for the bride-to-be there was one essential component missing – William was on duty as a search and rescue pilot on Anglesey.

His brother Prince Harry looked on as she was put through her paces by royal aides.

Clarence House said Kate’s secret early morning visit to the Abbey was only ‘one of many’ practice runs for the big day.

Onlooker LBC reporter Dan Friedman said: ‘They shut down the Abbey to the general public for what was described as a “private visit” and sneaked them in and out of the back.’
