The royal weeding takes place this Friday and while the majority of the people are quite excited about it, some seem to find it amusing to downplay the event and think it to be a total waste of time and wonder why anyone would even bother watching it.
The following videos are mere examples. While we only post those, it is a common theme that is on display on many networks and news reports.
For people like Kirsten Powers, Judith Miller and Bill O’Reilly et al.. let me explain it to them why people care about this.
We live in turbulent times, world economies are in crises, oil and gas prices are through the roof, unemployment is at record highs and most people struggle to make ends meet. We’re fighting multiple wars, military families fear the fate of their loved ones on a daily basis and every time we turn on the news there is political bickering going on and everyone is ready to tear their opponents apart.
Yet on April 29 eyes around the world will be focused on happy times. On that day billions of people will step out of their misery for just a couple of hours to watch an historical event. For a couple of hours people will step out of reality to watch a fairy tale. Only this is not a Hollywood production, it’s a real life fairy tale.
The Royal Wedding doesn’t cost anyone anything, it is harmless entertainment, suitable for all ages and every one will walk away feeling a little better afterwards, if only for one day.
I’m happy for Kirsten Powers, Judith Miller and Bill O’Reilly that they have it going well for them and don’t feel the need to have step out of reality. But for most people around the world this is not the case. Most people desperately need the break. When all is said and done people will have enjoyed it and for the rest of their lives will remember the day when the future king of England married a commoner he fell in love with in college. A simple girl who turned princess and will one day be the Queen of England.
So to all those who have it all going great for them, instead of dissing this event, pick up a phone to a friend who is struggling and tell them to take a break for just a couple of hours. Encourage them to put their feet up, enjoy the day and maybe invite them over to your place and watch it together. Have a drink congratulate the newly weds and wish them lots of luck and happiness in their future life together.
When tragedy strikes anywhere in the world, the world comes together. For a change let the world come together to celebrate happiness we all so urgently need.
Had the Øbama’s been invited, they would have been drooling down their bibs with tingles all up their legs…
