Prince William and Kate Middleton will take the new titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it has been revealed.
William will also become the Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus, meaning Kate will become the Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus.
The changes – decided by the Queen – take immediate effect for the Prince, while she will not become Duchess until after the marriage.
Sky News Royal commentator Alastair Bruce said: “The great thing about the Queen’s choices is that she has chosen an English dukedom, a Scottish earldom, a Northern Irish barony and he is already the Prince of Wales.”
Sky News’ Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter added: “The popular press will still call her Princess Kate.
“It was the same with Diana. They called her Princess Di or just Di.”
