Appearing on Foxnews with Rich Lowery to discuss Rick Santorum’s surge, Alan Colmes suggested that republican primary voters will not vote for Rick Santorum because in 1996 when Santorum’s son Gabriel who was born with Trisomy 18, a serious genetic disorder, Santroum took the baby home just two hours after birth so his other children could see their new brother prior to his inevitable passing.
When attacked by Lowry for the cheap shot, Colmes tried to defend himself by saying this shows Santorum has a lack of character.

Lack of character? THIS? The guy had a baby who was about to die and wanted to introduce it to his other children. Santorum and his wife felt that this would be the best way for him and his family to deal with this.
Alan’s problem is not that Santorum brought the baby home, his real issue with Santorum’s “lack of character” is that the Santorum’s didn’t abort the baby the easy option Colmes would have picked.
I agree with Alan on one thing. Towards the end Lowery notes that even the ‘dastardly’ people in the media wouldn’t sink so low to which Colmes responds: “I disagree”. Colmes is right on this one, the media and the Democrats would go anywhere when it comes to taking down a principled conservative.
Shame on you Alan.

At a Pizza Ranch restaurant in Newton, Iowa, a member of the audience asked Santorum to react to a controversial attack leveled by liberal Fox News contributor Alan Colmes, who called the Santorum family’s approach to grieving for their dead baby boy, who lived for only two hours after his birth in 1996, “crazy.”
In a Fox News interview on Monday, Colmes characterized Santorum’s decision to bring the deceased child home an example of “some of the crazy things he’s said and done.”
But in Iowa this afternoon, Santorum explained that it was important for his other children to “know they had a brother.”
Santorum’s wife, Karen, who was at the event and listened to her husband talk about the experience, began to weep.
“It’s just so inappropriate,” she said as tears streamed from her eyes.
Earlier on Monday, Colmes criticized Santorum’s handling of the death of the child, Gabriel Michael Santorum.
“Get a load of some of the crazy things he’s said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby when it died right after child birth home and played with it so that his other children would know that the child was real,” the liberal pundit said in a Fox News interview.
In a 2005 New York Times Magazine profile by writer Mike Sokolove described how the Santorum family reacted to the tragedy: “Rick and Karen Santorum would not let the morgue take the corpse of their newborn; they slept that night in the hospital with their lifeless baby between them.”
Karen Santorum also writes on the event in her book: “‘Letters to Gabriel: The True Story of Gabriel Michael Santorum.”
Colmes’ comment is very insensitive and a horrible thing to say about someone. How a person grieves is none of anyone’s business as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else.
Losing a child in anyway is horrible. This was surely a difficult time for them. I am confused though at how Rick Santorum says he is against abortion, yet his wife had this second trimester abortion (labor was induced) in order to save her life.
I’m not judging them for not adopting. But I think it is important to question it. If someone’s actions do not align with their words it’s a red flag for someone’s character, and brings into question — what do they really believe? Does Rick Santorum really believe that abortion is always wrong, if him and his wife had this abortion in order to save her life?

Not only did Obie smoke illegal drugs, but had sex with a man in the back seat! Not everyone is connected as you are saying. “Alan colmes and the left”? Colmes is the only person who made this comment. This is also not really related with the Clinton scandal. You can find plenty of examples of this sort of behavior in all politicians (and people in general).
There are many absurdly wrong things in the world, and it can be really upsetting. (ex: how babies are left to die from starvation in china because they were abandoned) But getting worked up like this can be detremental to your health (like blood pressure). Boxing lessons or another sort of exercise is a good way to take out anger. Take care!!

Actually he did. What Colmes said was correct. Ass cream… I mean Santorum brought home a dead baby for his young children to play with. Like it was some type of doll. But what I really would like to know is how long where they playing house before the dead brat started to smell dead. I’m guess 3 or 4 hours. What do you think?
