Fox News First 2012 Campaign Ad: How Is That Hopey Changey Working Out For You

My initial reaction when I saw this live this morning on Fox & Friends was “Good, about time someone in the media calls it like it is, glad Fox has come around to it”.

After I thought about it, while I like the video and the concept it did raise a question: Should a news network get in the business of picking candidates?

It’s no secret that all news networks are biased, the majority for Obama, but to do an official production that is more campaign ad than report is taking it a step to far. Especially from a network that does segment after segment calling out media bias.

Everybody knows that Fox News is in the tank for Romney and that they’ll do everything they can to defeat Obama, I’m all for it. If however Fox News is going to “officially” do it they should just drop the Fair & Balanced nonsense, all that does is leave them with one hand tied behind their backs.

Pretty much all the networks are leaning left, maybe it is time Fox News to come out and just says they are a conservative network and actually do some good helping elect conservative candidates.

This ad may well be the first move in leaning in the direction.

Here is the FULL Segment:

UPDATE:

Ed Morrissey echoes my thoughts:

Should a news organization produce and publish attack ads like this?  I know the initial response will be that other news organizations offer biased perspectives and hagiographies of Obama that go well beyond a single video … and that response is entirely valid.  However, we usually criticize that kind of behavior with other news organizations, too.  If anyone wanted to look for evidence that the overall Fox News organization intends to campaign against Obama rather than cover the campaign, this video would be difficult to refute as evidence for that claim.

Apparently Bill Shine, EVP of programming for Fox News released the following statement :

“The package that aired on FOX & Friends was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network. This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”

Well their goes my hope for Fox becoming unfair and unbalanced.

  1. I have been shocked at the blatant liberal bias on MSN (especially Morning Joe) so many times that I now know to expect it. In a perfect world, the media would report the news fairly and without bias – a complete nuetral observer with all of their facts gathered from legitimized sources and double checked. But this does not happen in reality and for so long, Fox has tried to be the neutral source, however it has been at the expense of conservatives. When MSN and other news sources can be so blantantly biased and the only more moderate (to conservative) news station does not counter, young people and the gullible take the word of the liberal stations without question. There needs to be balance somewhere in the process so people can get both sides of heated issues.
